Convert Non-quattro to Quattro
I have a 1986 Audi 5000 non quattro, would it be possible to add a quattro trany, drivetrain, axles, and rear suspention componts to make mine a quattro. I do the the repairs on my car by myself, I even put in a new engine in myself. so I would just be another project. If possible

Since 1986 was the NAmerican intro of the Quattro in the type 44's...
my guess is your chassis and floor should accommodate the quattro drivetrain with little or no modification.
I think the exhaust will need to be re-routed at a few points. The front and rear rotors are larger and are 5 lug, so besides a new brake system, you would need a new set of wheels and tires too.
IMHO, an easier and less expensive project would be to buy a later model 5KCSTQ fixer-upper.

Agreed...
a lot of the interior bits are different also (controls for the air lockers, that sort of thing). I've owned both, and I think the mounting points on the rear suspension are also different (A arms verses the trailing links). I think the only way this would be practical would be to get a wrecked TQ, otherwise the parts are just going to cost too much. Much better to just go get yourself a project car with the right bits already on it, those old 5KTQs are not that much money now anyway.

Don't Do it
Listen to Todd, buy a nicer old one, your money and sanity will go alot farther. I was considering this with an older 4000s, thank god someone talked me out of it......
You would effectively be making a slow car even slower.....
Buy a 86+ Type 44 TQ, and start fresh. I did, It' the best car I've ever owned....
Then again, if you are looking for a project, you certainly have one on your hands....Hey more power to you if you can pull it off, or rather put it on....!

You can't do it with a fwd 4000 because the floorpan is different. It may....
be the same for the 5000's, too. The bummer is that even the Coupe GT has a different floor pan than the Ur-quattro. At least from what I can tell from my Bentley manual.
