Did I fry my clutch?

I dropped it at about 3k rpms(I know, bad idea, especially with a chipped car), the revs flew but the car didn't. It accelerated at about half it's usual pace. I immediately turned into a parking lot, and when I got out, there was a strong burnt rubber kind of smell. I know the tires hadn't spun-out, so it must have been the clutch.
Driving it around for the rest of my errands, I didn't notice any slipping of the clutch, but the smell continued. Something is definitely wrong, and I'm afraid it's going to cost me!!
If it is the clutch, will I make things worse by continuing to drive the car? What would be a good source for the part, and what should I expect to pay in parts/labor?
TIA,

You just shortened the life of the clutch.
I doubt you did anything that ruined the clutch. When you "slip" the clutch that's the smell you get...not very pleasent. You just missed the engagement of the clutch and the plates just "spun" against each other (I know, not very technical :-). I've done this countless times in my 928. If you would have pushed the clutch back in and relased again it (more than likely) would have caught.
My 928 has had no ill effects from the numerous times I've pulled this stunt. Except my clutch is about gone before I even reach 70k miles. I wouldn't suggest doing it again. I haven't done it for years since I found out how "far gone" my clutch was.....and my clutch is still getting along fine!! I'll probably need to replace it in the next 10k miles though....if all goes well!!
Live and learn!!

Your response gives me some much needed perspective. I think I've learned a lesson without an immediate, expensive consequence. From now on, I'm going to take it a bit easier. BTW, It doesn't smell anymore, and it engages just fine.
