Getting into the sunroof

In my 85 5ks, the sunroof worked, and didn't work. But currently, it doesn't work at all, the motor turns, but the sunroof doesn't stay put. I was able to manually slide the roof close, but not all the way. There is a little area the sinks into the roof, so it created an air drag, and gets annoying at 60mph+
Basically, I just need to adjust the sunroof by accessing it from below, taking apart the headliner. My haynes says that this should be left up to the professionals, but I don't have the money to pay a guy $1000 to slide a roof closed.

I am pretty sure that on the 87 that I gave my daughter that there is a hand crank in the toolkit to manually operate the sunroof. I mght have that confused with some other car I have messed with, but it is worth checking out. the procedure was also, I believe, shown in the owners manual. Good luck.

Well, once I got the cover off, i inserted the alan wrench to manually close the roof an extra inch, when to my surprise, the motor assembly slid upwards into the roof, apparently, the unit wasn't screwed in all the way. So i screwed it in a quater inch and turned on the ignition and the roof closed. Ha! so much for those hot days without A/C!
I guess the Audi God knew it was my birthday today and gave me a present.
