Default Happy ending to a frustrating brake job

I'll start by saying that this forum is great. I was about ready to scream after an unsuccessful brake job, when I remembered about another guy's experience (Ramius17 on Jan 14 2001).

Shortly after replacing the brakes on all 4 wheels of my '93 100s last summer, they began to fade. The only possibility I could think of was that maybe the pads glazed, either because I didn't break them in correctly, or because they were defective.

Last weekend I finally got around to redoing the brakes. The pads showed almost no wear, and were a little shiny, but not really abnormal. To my chagrin, the brakes acted just as poorly after the 2nd brake job.

Then I remembered reading about how Ramius17 found a collapsed vacuum hose, which prevented his booster from getting vacuum. Wouldn't you know, that exact hose was collapsed on mine. It's a short length of rubber hose, pointing out the front of the intake, making a 90 degree turn. (It SHOULD be made out of metal or hard plastic, or at least molded into an elbow.)

I replaced that hose, and the brakes work like new.

Thanks Ramuis17.
