I have a 94 100S wagon(non-Q)with 78K. Today auto trannie was unable to shift itself beyond 2nd gear, despite what I did with the shifter. Car goes in reverse, park and all forward gears, but will not upshift to third and fourth gears on its own or with shift lever. Shift lever does move into all gear positions, i.e lever is not stuck in gear. Could this simply be a transmission fluid issue (too low or needs changing) or something more dire? Please help!!!

I recently had the same thing happen with my 91' 100. Don't know if the transmissions are similar, but this may help. Check your fuses. My transmission has an electronic shifter and the fuse kept blowing. The car stayed in second gear, but I had to replace the fuse to get it started every time. It turns out, the trans shifter is on the same circut as the reverse lights and the wireing for the the lights was getting crimped by the trunk lid and shorting the whole circut.<p>Gordie

Thanks a bunch!!! I just had reverse light switch replaced. It's probably related to the circuitry on the electonic shifter, if our trannies are the same.
