On my 1989 Audi 100 my alternator belt keeps slipping. I've had the alternator rebuilt due to bad brushes and we put the belt on ourselves. We were told that if you can move the blades on the alternator with the belt on that that means the belt is too loose. We bought new belt and put belt on tight and we could only move the blades with a good amount of pressure. Belt doesnt squeak when no accessories are on only squeaks when A/C is on and other accessories. Is the belt still loose? Is the belt too tight? If its too tight how tight should it be? Thanks alot!

It happened to me as well. Then, I found, A/C compressor is going south. Well now is gone...:-( Hence no more squealing. And no more cold air as well. Kinda uncomfortable. Especially when one is living in Fl. :-)

On my 89 100, I find that the new belt must be put on very tight, because it stretches in the first 30 days of use. I then retighten the belt to the proper tension, and it works fine.
Also be sure to use the proper Audi p/n belt. Auto parts store belts are not the exact same spec, and will give you trouble.
Just my opinion. hope it helps...
