MikTip: Do you know if Special Tool 3207 (CV removal) is Audi specific? Can I just use a M16 bolt?

Also, in your "rubber mallet" method is it difficult to get the new CV back on? Does it just slip on or does it require a vise? Thanks for your help.

If you bought a CV kit, you can use the old M16 bolt to pop it off. Make absolutely sure that the CV joint is straight when you crank on the bolt, otherwise you might damage the joint.

You can use a M16 bolt, but make sure its about 1 inch longer than the axle bolt. The axle bolt works, but its too short to completly remove the CV. It helps to grind the end to nearly a point. The axle end has a pointed hole in it. This will help the M16 bolt align center, and remove the CV centered.
Once you remove the CV, it has a habit of cutting out chunks from the lock ring on the axle from the grooves on the CV. These metal chunks need to be cleaded out of the CV, or they will damage the CV later on down the road. I use a small magnet inside the CV to get them.
The rubber mallet needs to be used to get the CV back on. I clamp the axle in a vise, than tap the CV back on past the lock ring. The lock ring is what makes the CV tight to go back on. You can verify the CV is on, by pulling on it up and down, and it should move up & down ever so slightly about the lock ring.
Also make sure you see the 2 washers on the axle end behind the CV. They have to be reinstalled a specific way. Ones plastic the other steel. The steel one is concave.
