Default New style Ignition Switch configuration

I bought a new igniton switch for my 1989 Audi 80.
The new switch is different in that it has one extra terminal but it fits all the same. But the problem is that now the car willnot run. Seems that Audi made a change the requires reconfiguration of the wiring and no one that I have contacted knows anthing about how/what to do. The vendor that sold it contacted Audi without any help either. Does anyone know what has to be done to correct the wiring for this???????

That's what I thought too, but I was told by two other vendors that the id number was now for a newer type switch. I ordered a old style from a parts yard too try. If it does the trick I'll definately let EVERYONE know, especially the company I bought it from. But according to them, it's the one! We'll see I guess.

Default Whats the part number on the switch it self? Certain items you "want" to order from Audi!

Where did you order the switch from?

Sounds like they gave you some generic brand.

You should not have to modify anything. I'm with Fast928 on this one. Sounds like the wrong switch.

Hello,

The number on the OEM switch is 893 905 849.
It has seven terminals on it, whereas the one sent me has eight. As for where I ordered the switch from, it was Autohausaz.com Does this help any???

Default The part number you listed today.....

...is just the ignition switch potion of the switch (4A0 905 849)!! Is that all that they sent you??....Or does the part they sent you look like JUST like the part that you read the part numbers (893 905 849) off of a few days ago!!!

The part number you listed a few days ago was the ignition switch AND steering lock. The part number that you listed today is ONLY ONE component of the part number you listed a few days ago!! (i.e...4A0 905 849 is one component to the part number 893 905 849)

The part number for the igntion switch portion IS correct. BUT if they sent you the igntion switch AND steering lock and only told you the part number you just listed (4A0 905 849)....I would be leary!!!

Does that make sense to anybody else?? :-)

That's what I thought too, but they insisted this was a NEW and IMPROVED style.
Do you know what the correct number is pending it is different from the original OEM that I listed.
