I recently purchased a 5000 cd (d?) turbo quattro
and am very pleased (more and more everyday!). My question is, I cannot tell if my ABS is working properly. During a hard stop I will get the warning light that my ABS is off, but during a slow stop everything seems fine? I also don`t have any indication if my differentials are locked (the panal lights don`t come on when I turn the selector to any position). I have tried to enable the ABS, but I`m unsure if it`s on...any help would be appreciated.

If the light is coming in it means the ABS computer doesn't like something and has turned the ABS off. Might have something to do with your diff locks since the ABS shuts off if the diffs are locked (it can't tell if there is a difference in wheel speed if the diffs are locked). If memory serves the switches for the indicators are on the locks themselves, and the switch is just a vaccum switch. The indicators are LEDs so it is unlikely that they are burned out, and since neither lock works I would go look for a vaccum leak, or mayne it is the switch itself. BTW the ABS is on if the light is out.
