Default Steering end and tire clearance

This being my first Audi, I need to know the least amount of distance between the inside of tire and the steering arm edge(probably wrong term) that is allowable. Does any part of the steering flex or move at the edge inside the wheel-well by the tire so it could rub the inside of the tire?
I just put new tires (205/55/16) on 16x7.5 wheels on a '97 Cabriolet and tire is very close to steering part. Appreciate any answers before I might ruin new tires.

Run it for a while (including hard cornering), then pull the tires and chec for rub marks on the inside of the tires and suspension components. 205/55-16 really isn't that outrageous (my A6 has those stock), so there shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the reply. The closeness problem isn't because of change from 15" to 16" wheels but the width change from 7" to 7.5" wheels.
