Strange Problem with my Audi 5+5 fuel system (K-jetronic)

I am completely baffled!!!
Here are the symptoms: Car starts fine. It drives fine for about 30kms, then starts to choke, particularly on uphill with open throttle (seeningly due to lack of fuel). BUT (and this is the wierd bit) if I switch the engine off, and then immediately back on again, it will run fine for another 30kms before it starts to choke again.
I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel accumulater, the fuel relay and injectors, and I've checked the fuel pump and surrounding wiring. Nothing has worked, instead the problem is getting worse.
PLEASE HELP

If it's K-Jet, it may. One of my VWs did the same thing, and it turned out to be the transfer pump gone bad, which ended up killing both pumps. Even if it doesn't have the in-tank pump, I'd bet anything it's the fuel pump. Listen for a groaning sound next time it happens; if you hear it, your pump is shot.

I removed the fuel tank yesterday to investigate - but the doesn't appear to be any transfer pump inside.
I was told by someone else that the problem is occuring because the air pressure in the tank increases as the petrol decreases, making it harder and harder for the pump to pump through. This means that the tank ventalation system is buggered - ie. the charcoal canister.
The charcoal canister on my car is located just infront of the front right tyre. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS WORKING OR NOT?
