Default Will any rim that fits a A4 fit a 200q20v???

wheel in question is a 17x7.5 Borbet Type T... 5x112, not sure of backspacing, probably either 40 or 38, and should i run 235/45/17 or 225/45/17 tires?

TIA!

Default Stock 200 20V rims were...

forged BBS 15 x 7.5 ET35. If the 200 in question has UFO brakes, I'd think you'd need to maintain the 35mm offset.

I used 225-50's on 16 x 8 rims ET35 and they fit with no problem. I'd imagine an extra 10mm in tire width would not be a problem.

Now that's what I call moving in the right direction - going from a 1.8T to a 20V! :^)

Default It depends (more)

Hi Anand- we spoke briefly via email.

If the car in question has the UFO brakes, you need to be very aware of the backspacing. Offset is not as signficant.

I'm running OEM S4tt Avus wheels, 17x7.5" ET45, which is 10mm too far inward, but there is still lots of space to clear the brake rotors. However, that is due to the massive amount of backspace inherent in the Avus wheel.

You can run into some wheels that have the correct offset (in a 17x7.5, you want ET35 offset ideally for this car), but won't clear the rotors.

One relatively easy gauge to go by is to only select wheels that clear S4tt brakes. I cannot guarantee this, but I think you can safely assume that any wheel that will clear the S4tt brakes will also clear the UFO rotors.

Considering that with the right offset and properly wide wheels, you can run 255s under the fenders of the '91 200q (see Chris Miller's site), so I'd go with 235s.

I'm going to eventually put 235s on my wheels as well as 10mm or 15mm H&R spacers, possibly go to a stud conversion at that time as well.

Default hey! well, the Borbet's don't clear S4 calipers...

heck, i know of 19"s(Axis Se7ens) that don't clear the S4 calipers... hmmmm i was thinking about gettin S4tt rims also, maybe those with a 5mm spacer on em would clear the UFOs... also, soon after, i will be switching to a 320mm slotted rotor setup...

i recently found a car in Texas for $5k with 135K miles on it, supposedly in great condition.. i am very seriously looking at this.. hell, for $3500 under the normal price, i'm willing to fly to TX and drive it back!!! also, with that low of a price, the remaining 5K of my budget will allow: rims/tires, springs/shox, eurolights, brakes, and stereo mods....

thanks!

Default Re: Will any rim that fits a A4 fit a 200q20v???

I had the Borbet T in the same size on my Miata, and it really showed-off the tiny brakes. Not a good thing. Given that the UFOs are not particularly eye-pleasing, I'd personally stay away from a rim that has such large gaps between the spokes. I'm planning on switching my A6 2.7t OEM rims(16") over to my UFO equipped 20020v. They fit and have a lot of spoke to obscure the UFOs.

On the other hand, if you are going to upgrade the brakes, a 17" wheel like the Borbet would look pretty great IMO.

Default Be careful (more)

Anand,
The S4tt Avus wheels will clear w/o any spacers. The Axis Se7ens must not have enough backspacing behind the face of the wheel to clear the calipers. Funny, I've seen photos of those wheels on S4s, though.

That's why I said that any wheel that will clear S4 calipers will clear UFOs- that's a general rule, and I'm sure there are exceptions, so make sure of fitment before buying.

When you look at that car in TX, make certain that the car has a thorough pre-purchase inspection done to diagnose any possible repairs needed.

Did you see if Jason Hutchinson's car in San Fran is still for sale? I can give you particulars on that car, if you like. Email me.

Default Funny you mention that (more)

My Avus wheels make my car look like I got some of those "fake alloy wheel" hubcaps over some steel wheels. :-)
