exactly, besides it was only top of 2nd gear we were riding on part of the go kart track i hear you
though 50-60mph even in a controlled environment is not fun if you fall.
the instructors did set the pace but a few times they would just break away from the riders in back of them. I never got the chance to be in back of them on a break away. just that one time when the guy almost crashed in front of me.

Still, insurance requirements and all. I guess because...
...it's a karting track they have different regulations. Most dedicated road courses actually have their own requirement of protection levels for different classes and vehicles.
