Default ALMS Corvette C5/C6 versus Daytona Prototype?

[Geek alert.] After watching the DPs run at Barber MSP, I "drove" the simulated GT1 Corvette C5 at the same track using GTR2 (PC game). My times on the C5 were almost identical to the lap times that were recorded by the DP class leaders (1:20 to 1:23).

OK, so we all know the fudge factors. I was in my den (73 degrees, comfy) not in a 145 degree cockpit. I ran 15 laps while they ran ??? (more). Computer sims are far from perfect.

But I did come away wondering how close they actually are.

PS: I ran the Lotus Elise around Barber in 1:29 to 1:33 when traffic was light. Of all the sim courses, I like Barber the best. Constant action, and lots of blind turns.

Default I know at the Glen that the ALMS R8 w/ a retired pro driver is w/i 2 seconds of DPs

I attended the HSR and Rolex races at the Glen this summer. Aaron Hsu brought his R8 and shared driving duties w/ Elliot Forbes-Robinson. Best lap time was 1:41.7. The weekend before Fogarty/Gurney were lapping in the high 1:43 range. The weather was similar both weekends... clear and in the 80s.

Default At Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, they both ran the full track (4.5 mile, 24 turns) in 2006

ALMS has already run for 2007 back in May while the Daytona Prototypes don't come until mid Sept.

In 2006, ALMS was here in July with scorching hot temps. DP's were here Labor Day weekend with decent temps.

Using 2006 results:
The C6.R team had a fastest lap of 2:37.914 driven by Fellows/ O'Connell. Full results (PDF warning) here.
The Michael Shank Racing / Lexus Riley team, car 60, driven by Patterson/ Negri/ Pruett had a fastest lap of 2:39.249. Full results here

A note about the races. ALMS did their usual 2 hour 45 minute race, starting at 6pm with 105F ambient and 145F track surface temps at the start of the race. The Rolex series did a 9 hour race, starting at noon with cooler temps, don't remember how much but at least 10F ambient if not closer to 15F.

Hope that is a good comparison for you.

Default GT1 cars should be faster than DPs in many places. At Mid O the pole time in GT1 was a

1:16.6 and a 1:18.3 in DP. Last year's GT1 pole at Laguna was 3 tenths down on this year's DP pole, but race I think the GT1 fast lap was faster. It's close enough there that weather could be the difference.

Of note though, the Hoosiers that Grand Am runs on are total crap compared with the Michelins and other competitive tires in ALMS.

Cool. So my "sim" was fairly accurate.

Default GTR2's pretty good across the board

Tyre and areo physics are where most of the fudge factor lies, but overall, I <3 GTR2.

I run ~ .5 to .7 ahead of real FIA GT2 class cars around the tracks..after I learn them.
