Default the big problem with HANS is...

that you have to have shoulder harnesses and for greatest effectiveness, they have to be mounted only 3" apart which would be hugely uncomfortable without the HANS and potentially dangerous too!

So the barrier for most track-day folks (who don't already use harnesses) is that modification and anyone who drove/rode in your car would have to be wearing a HANS (when using the harnesses).

Ultimately, that type of systems appears to be heading the way of the helmet where you don't even think of driving without one but it's use requires properly mounted harnesses.

I have also heard (though still 2nd hand) that it appeared to be the extremely high impact forces which caused the fatal injuries though the passenger side appeared to be more or less "destroyed" other than some of the basic structure of the chassis.

I saw a similar accident years ago at a Pantera club event at Riverside where the impact into the rounded corner of the wall by turn 1 caused fatal internal injuries to the driver despite the fact he was in a racing seat and harness and had a cage in the car...ie the forces are sometimes simply unsurvivable.

Default good...

next should be a cage...particularly with side-impact protection.

Default That's been a time issue.

But the car is scheduled to go under the knife after this weekend's event.

Default Very sad, sorry to hear about this. Thanks for your posts on the A6 board and others.

Too much jaw flapping on this on many of the forums by people who know nothing and just want to hate on someone who had enough means to own a Carrera GT. He sounds like he was a great car guy and a good and decent person, based on the outpouring on the linked boards.
