also, a guy totaled a 350Z (coupe). lost it while tracking out of T7 and never make T8. this was in the instructor's run group, but I don't think he was instructing.

It was Sept. 2001...looking back it was sooo Mickey mouse but man it was a ton of fun for the track newb. I knew I had to have more and I drove in my first DE two weeks later.

The PCA (Porsche Club of America) placed similar restrictions for their Driver Ed schools as well. This excluded open cars like the Cabrio, and Boxster. They mandated that it had to be a closed car, or have the hard top in place. I do think they allowed the cars to run as long as the convertable top was in place thought. I will admit, that when I rolled my 914 at Mont Tremblant 10 years ago, I was glad to have the top in place, it probably saved me from serious injury.

Accidents happen very rarely at at audi club events, but accidents do happen, and when safety is the #1 priority, reducing risk should be THE priority. Prohibiting open cars from participating is an easy way to protect audi club instructors and participants against the unknown. How can you think this is wrong? How can you expect driving instructors to get into these unprotected cars with drivers they know nothing about? Perhaps the new tt or amg whatever is a safe car but what about the people who show up in kit cars? The distinction becomes difficult, and the unpleasant task of paring instructors with "unsafe" cars is not something an event master should be forced to do! It comes down to the fact **** happens and event masters should not be forced to deal with cars "less safe" then the sedans everyone else drives. These days track time is easy to find so "they" have plenty of clubs to drive with. To be honest, I dont respect a convertible driver who does not understand why an instructor would not feel comfortable getting into their car. The audi club is more evolved and experienced then many people realize, we are leading the way and you will see other clubs follow.

that spring, I did my first event (student-like DE and then a 2-lap Time Trial) in a Tri-Oval at Nazereth Speedway. scary walls and all, I still placed well. stock brakes and all.

times sure have changed since then.

But an SUV where the driver is sitting with his *** 3 feet off the ground, that's a hazard.
