Audi has officially announced it will contest the ALMS series, beginning at the Sebring 12 hours.

"Audi to contest ALMS series this season -
12-Jan-2000

Audi has announced plans to contest the American Le
Mans Series this season.

The German car manufacturer, who debuted at the
1999 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, is entering
two of its R8 sportcars in the American category.

'The American Le Mans Series provides attractive
motorsport,' said Dr Wolfgang Ulrich, head of Audi
Sport.

'We are extremely pleased to be able to fulfil the
wish of Audi of America to compete there.'

The ALMS assault will be coordinated by Reinhold
Joest and his team.

Audi stated the first race on the ALMS calendar - the
Sebring 12 Hours - will act as a shakedown for this
year's Le Mans on June 17/18. "
