In the just out November'98 issue of European Car Magazine, there is the accompanying illustration and caption article about the upcoming Audi's LeMans road racer .......theorized to have styling elements taken from the TT........this is quite some SUPER AWESOME TT to say the least. Hope the REAL racer looks like this.
Actually, to me this concept sort of looks like a combination of the TT, A4 or new Beetle (greenhouse) and Avus show car.
Would this car be cool or what for Audi to put on the track?
E.C. Mag, pardon me for any copy right issues regarding this scanned image.

Bob B
98.5 2.8QTS

Not sure I like it. Although, my experience has been that concept drawings look nothing like the final product. Audi should take note from Toyota. The Toyota GT-One at this year's Le Mans was beautiful!
I'm really looking forward to cheering for Audi at Le Mans next year. I may even make the trip this time!
Marcin R.
---
'98.5 A4 1.8Tqms

It was reported that an open cockpit Audi LeMans racer was tested in August, but maybe it was just a mule or test bed, not the final version. I sort of hope a GT1 closed cockpit type racer is the final version.
This EC Mag article and drawing was an artists concept. You never know how accurate those are.
Time will tell.
Bob B
98.5 2.8 QTS

I hope that it will be an open cockpit prototype (LMP-1 class). I used to like GT-1 cars, but the rules now are such a joke. It was bad enough that Porsche were allowed to race their 911 GT-1 back in 1996. I mean, appart from the roof line, there was absolutely no 911 in that car! Then came along Mercedes with the CLK-GTR. If that was a race car based on the CLK sedan, then I'm Bill Gates! Now, comes the Toyota GT-ONE and the Porsche 911 GT-1 98. Too much. We might as well go back to the days of Group C cars.
The GT-1 rules in the past stated that one had to have a production run of 50 cars to get into the GT-1 class. That was later reduced to 25. The last true modern GT-1 car was the McLaren F1. They made 100 of them BEFORE the GTR race version was built.
Oh well, don't mind me, I'm just a grumpy pseudo-old man thinking about the good old glory days!
Marcin R.
---
'98.5 A4 1.8Tqms

I read that Audi is waiting for details of the Le Mans organizers to see wich possibility would be more competitive. This year the open Prototypes clearly didn't stand a chance against the GT1 cars. But the organizers are working on evening the chances.
Frederic
PS I am an Audi-fan, but Porsche is still my absolute favorite.
