Default Curious about SCCA road racing classes...

What class does an A4 run in, is it the same for the 1.8T and 2.8?
Does the GCR allow you to change the turbo and the software?

Default Well...

...the short answer is "no place". No variant of the A4 fits any class of the SCCA Club Racing world.

No turbo's in SCCA Club Racing (more on that later). No AWD in SCCA Club Racing. A FWD 2.8 A4 might find a home in T2 (Touring 2), but somebody would have to petition the Nat'l Competition Board to add it to the class, which hasn't happened. Besides, T1 and T2 are for poseurs and spudknockers (oh...did you want opinions ?).

If you had an A4 or S4 built to World Challenge/Motorola Cup/BTCC/DTM spec, you could get a logbook issued for either ITE (Improved Touring Everything) or SP (Super Production), two more regionally defined classes without consistant rules and, more importantly, without large and competitive fields to play in. There are turbo cars in ITE and SP, as well as AWD, but they must have been built to meet the rulebook of some other sanctioning body's series (and ITE and SP also suffer from a large population of poseurs and spudknockers)(oh ****, another opinion....).

Besides, you don't really want to race your street car. Too great a chance of having your car wadded (know what we think when we see a new shiny car on the track ? "Ooooo....TARGET PRACTICE !!!), and the A4/S4 platform is a wallowing pig on stilts, unless you make a major investment in suspension and motor (Yikes, yet another opinion).

Default Agreed...

... by the time you're done, you'd be better off having spent the mod money from your S4 on a 914/6...

John, found a Lotus Elan GT 2+2 coupe the other day... for sale. One of sixteen fixed-head Elans imported.

Default What year ?

My intimate knowledge of Elans ends somewhere in the late 60's...are you talking about one of the 60's/70's series 2+2 coupes, or one of the continuations ?

You know how I feel about Loti - beautiful shapes, incredible handling, huge pain in the *** to live with. I'm still ignoring my '67 Elan roadster (no motor in the hole since July 3rd, 1989...cuz that's when I pulled it out last).

Default No I wouldn't race my street car..

was mostly curious with what could be done to an A4 and wondering why I've not seen or heard of one being raced in the SCCA.

Too bad, it would be fun to be able to take an older A4, change the turbo and kick some booty.
