Nope it was DE. I didn't know about the M3's engine. But nobody totalled their car or was hurt.

Default Patrick, were you with the main USAA company before the rollover?

Or were you in a higher risk subsidiary, such as a county mutual (i.e., USAA CIC)?

Default Patrick...I saw the video

That roof came in a bit more than I would have expected. Was that off-throttle oversteer...from the video you can't tell exactly what happened. Nothing like going off track at high speed...going sideways.

Glad you are ok.

My solution...only go 8/10th in my Audi on track...buy a dedicated track car for $5,700 and not worry about wrecking it...drive it 11/10th..It has a full roll cage,
extinguisher, and will soon have a fire system.

Default I committed the cardinal sin - tapped brakes after turn-in...

...after realizing I was coming into the corner too hot. I just barely tapped the brakes, but it was enough to start the slide, and I froze initially. Didn't get on the gas, as I should have, and as you can see in the video I was way late and way slow with counter-steering. I was afraid if I overcompensated I would go off the outside of the track into the Armco. That was the very first thing that enterred my mind as the tail started to slide, and that's what delayed my actions.

As for the roof, the car came to rest on a hill, with the heavy nose of the car on the downhill side. So, pretty much all the weight of the car came to rest on the front of the roof. You can see in the video that the roof is fine until the car comes to rest, so when the roof does collapse a bit it isn't at all violent, it just kind of settled. My helmeted head was a snug fit with the roof crushed down, but not too bad.

Default Re: Patrick, were you with the main USAA company before the rollover?

I was with the "regular" USAA. To be honest, I'm not at all familiar with their high risk subsidiaries. Do you think it would be worth my looking into, or if I'm out with USAA I'm out with their subsidiaries too?

Default I think you're out...

...their subsidiary operation is pretty seamless, and until you get your policy in the mail, you probably don't even know which one you're in. Their higher risk subsidiaries do charge higher rates though.
