Default Miller Motorsports Park East Track Preview

I attended the Miller Motorsports Park Instructor Certification School this past weekend and got a preview of the East track. 14 turns of a great new resource just outside of Salt Lake City.

The new track is sweet and the whole facility will be world class. Next year they host ALMS, Speed World Challenge, Grand-AM, AMA Superbikes and more.

AudiWorld & Audi Club NA plan a large corral for the ALMS weekend of July 13-15 at the Utah Grand Prix. Speed World Challenge and other races are this same weekend. Audi Club NA will also offer a driving event at the Motorsports Park next year.

The East track sits next to the grand prix garages along with the race control tower, start/finish line, paddocks and pit roads along one side. The Miller Motorsports Park Club House will be along an adjacent side. They are going to lay down something like 40 acres of asphalt in the next few weeks and there are also about 40 total structures/buildings going up. It is massive construction zone, which was shut down for the weekend school.

The track is not fully completed yet nor the surfaces completely cured. The east track was laid down first, while the west track is still off limits to equipment. There is no curbing or rumble strips in place yet, but rebar anchoring for soon to be poured concrete is in place! Going off was not an option. There is this massive smooth and wide track through a total unfinished landscape. The track has no crash barriers of any kind yet or run off safety areas finished. The track has some banking in a few turns and a little bit of elevation to play with.

The track is blast to drive and my favorite part has to be the 6, 7, 8 & 9 combination. 6 is an almost 180 degrees to the left at high speeds and then up a small hill at full boost towards 7. Brake hard and go left where it starts back down hill through 8 & 9 like a mini cork screw. Blasting out of 9 at full power and brake hard again for 10 before a passing zone.

Motorsports Ventures put the school on and the staff was just great. An interesting note is passing this class also gives you a PCA instructors license and they are also working with the BMW club on a similar arrangement. I plan to put Audi Club NA in contact for perhaps a similar agreement.

Who plans to run at Miller some day?

Here is a lap from my in car video.
