NASA and other THill regulars. I've noticed in a few videos that "good" drivers are showing

to hug the right side of the track when going from turn 9 to 10. After you crest the hill you hug that spot at the top then continue straight to turn 10 (this is what I was taught at my QC instructor school). What I have been seeing is that after they crest the hill they follow the right side of the track all the way to 10. But the track actually curves outward right there, causing them to go farther. Why would they do this? TIA.

apex 10 also. What I try to do is middle/late apex the right side of 9 (9b?)which puts me to where I drift left a tad(a little left of the middle of the track) for the smoother line, then I start reeling it in and aim at 10 to where I have a short time that I am hugging the right side with the car straight to smooth out the suspension and brake hard. Is that what you do? Because that curve on the right is almost a whole car width in extra area for someone to drift into. It just seems slower then even bee lining it from 9 to 10.

with the Civic, since we have 0 surplus power, cresting the hill in 9 at as high as revs as possible is followed by a gradual un-wind and then as straight of a shot as possible to 10. Any unnecessary turn of the wheel will hurt us more than not taking a completely straight shot. I usually end up somewhere in the middle of the track over the hill and then aim straight for the braking zone.

Because they have enough HP to spare in accelerating that drifting to the right is okay for them.

I ask because I recently saw a video of a line that Mike Benzon [sp?] recommends (he's an SCCA instructor and I hear one of the very quickest drivers around Thunderhill). He wasn't driving but he was instructing a student. He had the student in a E36 M3 enter 3 from near the left edge of the track (most folks do it from around the center) and then come all the way into the right edge and hug the right all the way around. I was surprised but this worked very well for the M3...actually reduced tire squeal while being faster. In turn 5 (the "Cyclone"), he had the driver hug the right edge again after the apex. Is this the normal line for racers?
