Default Need recommendation for harness - nothing serious, just something to keep me stuck to the seat.

I don't have sport seats, so I found myself wedging my left leg against the door or my right elbow behind the seat at the track last month.

I need a basic harness which:

1. Will keep me tight to the seat
2. Will allow me to use the regular seatbelts away from the track
3. Can be tucked away, invisible when not in use

Suggestions???

Thanks,
Mark

Default How is installation on that?

I've read Sean's write up on the install, but it doesn't appear to be enough for a novice shadetree mechanic such as myself to undertake.

Did you install yours yourself?

Is it that hard?

Thanks,

Default Not too bad

The rear anchors are a 10 minute job, but the front generally requires pulling the seat out of the rails and an extra person is helpful (it's easier on the manual seats for obvious reasons). Be careful of the goop on the seat rails.

Default It stays bolted in, but...

...the front and rear harnesses disconnect from each other. The rear straps can be stuffed under the back seat (the back bench seat just snaps in and out); the front straps can then just "fall" behind and under the front seats. They're never removed, just stuffed away out of sight.

Default Did you try the twist or seat back/pull to lock/seat forward like I suggested?...

I'm pretty thin so I was holding on even using these techniques(thanks Geza). Thinking about harnesses as well. We could always use duct tape or super glue, hehe.

Default Yeah, I found the grey seat goop, damn quarters. Thanks for the info. By the way...

I think you have the A-pillar gauge as well (as Corey).

How did you get around the airbags issue?

I'm dying to find a spot for my gauge(s)

Default I think you're picturing it incorrectly...

The Rallye 4 uses the stock seatbelt mounting points. The fronts anchor to your sides. If you're in the driver's seat (and lets all hope you are), there is one to your left at the bottom of the B-pillar, one one to your right, smushed between your seat and the center tunnel (this is the part that is difficult to get to in the installation). In the rear it mounts to the seat anchors underneath the rear seat cushion.

When unhooked, mine stashes away *behind* the seat. If you tried to loop them forward, they'd probably get tangled a bit on the sides when you're latching and unlatching your stock seat belts and there may not be room under the front of the front seat as the electronic connections to the seat itself maybe in the way.

I usually just leave it hooked up all the time, and let the shoulder harness dangle off the back of the seat, rather than moving all the straps around (of course you'd have to completely unhook it with passengers in the back).

Hope this helps.

Default The installation in the FAQ seems more complicated when reading, but....

It is super easy. I think replacing the TBB was more "difficult" than the harness.

I do recommend getting the center rear lap belt and grafting in place instead of removing the seat. Works equally well, and I think Morgan Conrad did the same thing.

I installed the Autocontrol II units, and they worked like a charm. They held me in place, as I'm a big guy and physics doesn't seem to be kind to me during track events. After the first event, the first PERFORMANCE mod I did was the harness belts. There is nothing like feeling what the car is doing.

I also took some pictures, in hoping to augment, but I didn't have a digi-cam at that point so they are not so step by step. However, feel free to email me with questions

Schroth Install pics
