Default Off topic post: NASA wants Spec Miata drivers pretty badly

There are a number of NorCal Spec Miata drivers that are trying to come up with a plan to promote SM drivers to come to NASA to race.

One idea is that Spec Miata drivers might get to drive free if they attend 7/8 race weekends.

Pretty cool concept huh? Wish I could commit to being able to race that much...FREE RACING.

All I would have to pay for is gas/tires/hotel/food...still expensive..but much better than paying an additional $275-450 per race weekend.

We will not know what happens for several weeks...

Default Yes, very popular already..

For example..at the SCCA school at Thunderhill last weekend...35 new SCCA SM drivers graduated..and this is just in NorCal.

Default Entry fees...

...they're just trolling for cash. I'm guessing the 'race free' might be a "buy 6, get 1 free" offer.

Everyone (SCCA, NASA, MWCouncil, EMRA, NASA, HSR, SVRA, VSCCA, VARA, LSMFT, EIEIO) is competing for entries.

Everyone is romancing Spec Miata, as it's a LARGE block of drivers with a (generally) unified set of technical rules. Just think of it as 'mass marketing' for sanctioning bodies.

Default John, that is not what is being proposed....

They are trying to get NASA to do SM in its own run group...but they need 20+ cars at every event do to so. They really don't want to be with the Baby Grands and Legends cars.

run 6, 7th one free will not fly with the drivers (in NorCal at least). We have 40-70 SM cars every race now in SCCA.

Default Then what, exactly, is being proposed ?

NASA (a "for-profit business") isn't just going to stop charging for entries its single largest race group.

you don't need to do an SCCA SM school if you already have a National SCCA License, do you?

Default If you have an SCCA competition license..you can race any SCCA race

At the club racing level...not at the pro level..that is another type of license. A comp license is a comp license...If I wanted to race Spec Racer Fords...or ITA cars...or ITE cars..I could with my current license. There is no Spec Miata only license.
