Speedvision Not Part of Potential NASCAR Channel
Speedvision chief Roger Werner had this to say about Speedvision and the NASCAR Channel: "Speedvision has been involved in conversations with NASCAR since the summer of 1999 regarding the creation and development of a NASCAR channel. Contrary to rumors, those discussions have in no way been related to converting Speedvision into a NASCAR channel, nor has there been any discussion of NASCAR purchasing Speedvision for that purpose." "In that same vein," Werner continued, "there are no discussions underway between Fox and Speedvision regarding the conversion of Speedvision to a NASCAR channel. Furthermore, Speedvision's contracts with cable affiliates and other programmers would make that scenario very unlikely."<ul><li><a href="http://www.motorsportstv.com/nascar_channel.htm">http://www.motorsportstv.com/nascar_channel.htm</a</li></ul>

...made on p. 49 of July 2's AutoWeek, and that Fox will close its purchase of Speedvision in August, at which point everyone at Speedvision will likely work under Bob Hill and do what he tells them to do. Mr. Hill was quoted as saying he will be working on the "evolution of Speedvision into a NASCAR channel." "We're looking at various programming grids with more NASCAR materials", Hill said. "We'd like to get this done by February, but that may be a bit optimistic." Hill would not rule out a name change for the network, although he noted Speedvision has strong brand equity."

Take that into account. They lose a lot of content if they rename the channel. Even FOX says they can't fill the channel with only NASCAR. So if they want any non NASCAR programming they can't rename the channel.
Of course this doesn't mean it wouldn't be heavily NASCAR programming-wise. Just not in name.
