Default PDA @ Pocono Int'l. pics posted...(edited)

all-in-all this PDA event was a blast. it was my first time on the North course with a dry line.

Total cost - $195.00 (non-PDA Membership)
Total Track time - Four 25 minute sessions averaging 45 miles total each session. if i had to guess i'd say about 10-12 laps per session. but i was so busy concentrating on my driving i really don't remember.

i started with the GREEN or novice group since i didn't want to proceed to fast not having driven w/ PDA before. what follows is what your day would be like your 1st time out w/ PDA.

after the drivers meeting the novice group met for about 1/2 hour to review guidelines and racing essentials.

the first track session started with a 25 minute leap-frog session around the course to give all the newbies a chance to learn the line. of course there were a few muscle heads in Rustangs in my group who proved incapable of following the line even when a seasoned instructor drove it right in front of him.

there were also a few Supra Turbos in the second novice group. i laughed when the instructor pointed them out as having broke the rear wheels loose...we were going at a snails pace i don't know how those guys managed to break loose.

our second and third sessions were with instructors...usually drivers from the most experienced group. these guys were both very good, i leanred a few things. but their difference in driving styles was evident in their instruction.

the 1st instructor was Alpha in a very nice Silver 996 (see pics). he took my car four two laps and then we switched.

for the second session i had a guy named John, who was driving a heavily modified black NSX (see pics). i was flattered because he had a choice of cars to instruct for and he specifically asked for the S4 :-) with John i think i advanced the most. we started with me driving, where it was quickley evident that i was not driving hard or fast enough..@ about 5/10 as he put it. by the last two laps of the session i was up a few notches and John was congratulatory.

i then got about 10 laps in his NSX - AMAZING! like crack cocaine to a crack *****, his car and abilities were amazing to me. seeing and feeling how hard he drove the car and noticing his break and turn in points was a huge help.

the last session we were solo. here's where i had a chance to show my stuff (or not to). i drove the car harder than i ever thought i would now that i had the confidence in me to let her rip.

i ended the session feeling good because all of the cars who i had to give point bys the previous sessions were the ones giving me the point bys during the last session. and yes, once i got into a rythem and was actually enjoying catching up to and passing Supras, a WRX and a yellow 944 it all ended to soon with the close of the last session.

Default actually the line was dry for my runs....

so it made for some high speed runs.

nope, no more EMRA for me. i may spectate though at local events.

i basically found out that i have ZERO insurance coverage if i damage the car during a timed or competitive event.

a "racing school" like PDA, is a whole different matter w/ my insurance policy. i am covered just as if i was driving down the street.

besides i feel the money is better sopent as far as amount of track time when comparing EMRA w/ PDA.

you should give it a whirl. they have events at the Glenn.

Default If I want cheap track time I just hit the local tracks for a buck a minute

I like the competiveness of timed events. Also, I'm going to the glen, well, to go to the glen

I personally think that $125 is a bit much (about 200 canadian).

Our solo 1 events cost $50/day...

anyway, there's no right/wrong way to do it. just have to choose your events

regards,
Liam

Default yes, being in the passenger seat in the instructor's car helped me the most my first time out.

It really shows the line better and how hard you really can drive your car. What you think the limits of your car are really YOUR limits, not the car's limits. Once your limits expand as you learn, it gets more fun and, of course, your lap times go down :-)
