Questions on getting into auto-cross

Does anyone have a FAQ on this? If not, here are my questions:
what are the popular organizations that do auto-cross? I know about SCCA, what else is there? What are their websites?
How much does it cost?
about how much track time & how many runs do you get?

I did an article on autocrossing and it is found at the link shown below...
Couple of other comments....Other car clubs put on autocross events...but
they are sometimes only open to that type of car....for example..the Porsche
club out here in the west really doesn't like other car types at their events,
at least out here they don't. Other clubs would be...Miata Club, BMW Club,
Shelby Club, Datsun 510 Club, Alfa Club, Fiat Club, and actually I have
even heard of a Rolls Royce Club doing an autocross event. In my area,
there are events also held by NASA (National Auto Sports Assn) and CSCC
(I don't know what it stands for). I have gone to one BMW event...it was
fun...until they found out that a few of us Audi owners were whippin their
butts on the course. Corey had best time of day...I had 5th fastest time of
the day...and two other Audi drivers had 7th and 9th fastest of the day.
In the winter months most events give you 3 runs...or about 35-75 seconds
each...in the summer you usually get 4 runs. As the daylight hours increase,
most events also let you do fun runs at the end of the day...I have gotten
an extra 5-6 runs doing this. In other parts of the US you may get more
runs...but in very populated California...we usually have too many cars at
the events...so runs are limited.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3821"><br><br>

Here are some great places to start.
There was also an interesting article in this months Sports Car magazine.(SCCA publication, probaly hard to find on newstands.)
http://www.autocross.com/ Lots of great info. Use the pull down to get to the good stuff!
http://www.wincom.net/trog/autocross/what.html Bunch of good stuff here as well.
http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/index.html This is the autocross section of the SCCA site.
http://www.nasaproracing.com/ Has links and schedules for their chapters. Not quite as much information.
My recomendation is find a local group, go out early on an event day and start asking questions, and offering to help. Helping out in most cases will imediately make you welcome... :-)

It would also help to know what city/state you live in.
But AutoCross.Com has a good listing of Clubs all over the USA that could also help. The smaller clubs are also more laid back, so might be even a better place to start you addiction

That guy over on the Z3 Coupe Forum was getting quite nasty with his words about AutoX, and the USA as well. You moment of humor was well placed. But as another (Coky) put it, my original post's 1st sentence SHOULD have had a smiley at the end of it. So it was part my mistake, I guess.

Yes, he did. But geez, an X5 driver, . . . . and on the X5 Forum, he talks about putting it sideways on the road, and then asks about brake fade! Any New Yorker's out there? Look out for a sideways, brake fading X5 coming your way! YIKES!

I finally was able to squeak some time away from home chores. And you were not there. Were playing the Alfa club at Willow?
Any way, I think my times kinda sucked, 94.9xx,93.5xx,95.5xx the others in GS were closer to 90. Don't really remember the other cars. I think I was pushing too much, kept bringing the rear end lose. I new I shoulda put on the new 17" from Ronal, but I think that would put me in a different class?

I worked the 4th run group, and ran in the 5th run group - so I was there AFTER lunch. My buddy Karl was there too with his M Coupe.
Your pushing was not really the car that much today! It was pretty much voted one of the worst courses ever designed! And so you don't have to go back to the drawing board on this one. I even spun out on my last run, which COULD have been my best run. The guy who won my class had a 76, 2nd place was a 78 in the same car, an M3. For me, well, it just wasn't my day, or course
