At Mid-O, I came cross a rather narly looking 5000 TQ at the end of the back straight; it kind of startled me at first - either this guy doesn't use his brakes (doubtful, considering my right foot was planted into the brake pedal so hard, I'm sure I'll end up with premature vericose veins) or his brake lights were out. It was driving the "anti-line" missing every apex and I was easily able to tease its tailpipe through all of the technical twisty bits. Its line was so far off, that I though, "maybe it was practicing the rain line"?!
Sensing my impending road rage, it considerately pointed me to pass after turn 11 and I subsequently began to gain significant ground through 13 and the carosel.
When, all of a sudden, while braking into turn 1, I see a 5000 grill with what can only be described as a cattle pusher on it. Man, where did he come from? This narly little bugger just gained 10 car lengths on me in the short, front straight! I didn't think any car at Mid-O could do that (save, maybe the race prepped 911's there).
O.K., time to gain some more breathing room. I started to loose him again through the keyhole (I really had this section down and was able to gain significant distance on most folks I came upon through there). Now to the back straight again, and here he comes again, as if shot out of a slingshot! I'm thinking, man, he must have one of those Liehman prepared 20Vs in there! This buggers fast.
This cat and mouse game continued for a few more laps when the checker finally came out - a signal to me that I can begin to collect myself and stop trembling now! Mental note: Avoid strange looking 5000!
After the session, I went to visit this 5000 (lets call it Cristine) to tell its driver those little red things in the back which warn people your stopping ain't working, when it all became clear to me. That wasn't a cattle pusher, that was an aluminum plate protecting the front of the C5 Corvette engine it had stuffed in there! Man-o-man, there is no substitute for C.I.s.

Not sure if it is HIS car, but i know he built it with Ingo. It was at Monterey, but I didn't get to spend a lot of time looking at it.
Apparently, the Audi De engineers were all over it, though!
