Default Warning for anyone going to the PRO Solo at El Toro (Dave Schotz???)

BRING PLENTY OF TIRES!!!!!!!!!!

The surface, as I was told, is typical military base rough concrete. And to prove it, David Palmquist, last years CSP National Champion (a Miata in fact too) corded 2 brand NEW R tires in a spin. But the grip is AWESOME! It'll make any tire feel like a racing slick

And for what its worth, I mashed the ZR1 Vette (2 drivers) that have been my nemisis, as well as the M3 that beat me last time out - the Vette by near 2 seconds, and the M3 by 1 second. And if you think the Vette driver is a slouch (as some might poo poo it), he happens to be the 2nd most winningest driver in Cal Club History (dating back to earlier than SCCA even).

Default Then bring tires, tires, and MORE TIRES!

I am not kidding. Only THREE runs, 1 spin, and 2 new Kumho's were corded. But the grip you will get on this pavement will blow your mind!

Sadly, tho, as lots get harder to find, this may be the only one we have till August to use. Might cause a bit of a ruckus seeing how it trashes tires. But then, it can even make a Pirelli P7000 SS look like an R tire with the grip it gives

As our internal SM is different than SCCA's (we actually had ours for some time before they made it up), I can't tell you who to look out for here. But Tom Berry is selling his Mazda RX3 that WAS the dominating SM car, as well as an ex CSP National Champ car.

I am not entered, but will go to watch as I live nearby. I come over to say hello.

Default There is a rumor . . . .

That our E-Board had bought stock in Kumho and Hoosier for the PRO Solo event

Seriously, with the number of runs you will have in the PRO Solo, as well as any extra runs from reruns, or the shootout - you WILL need more than just one set, even if new!!! This surface is so rough, if you ran and fell on it, you'd be lucky to have any skin left on you! But then too, as I had said, the grip will be TREMENDOUS! Nearly any car will attain over 1G of traction in the turns. Even my car felt glued to the course!

And the scenery there is beautiful! But bring plenty to drink and eat - so far as I know, there isn't any food stands there, nor much shade. And the nearest food (Denny's, Knowlwood Burgers, or Jack In The Box) is some time away (it takes long enough at 20mph to get from the gate to the event). So be prepared.

And GOOD LUCK too!

Default Is this event open to any SCCA member?

I might be in LA that weekend and, if so, I'd love to take part. Are there "novice" classes?

Pre-registration is required. There is no novice class. ProSolo is fun!
