Even with an AW discount, those labor and price rates are up there. Dealerships have high overhead.

https://forums.audiworld.com/newengland/msgs/99157.phtml</a

but you need to look at the individual situation, can't just assume the dealer will always be more...deal with facts. It's probably safe to assume the dealer will usually be more not including any discounts.
The price for "a piece of plastic" in your link does seem out of line...but dealer labor and parts pricing varies a lot...

and are factory trained.
a good independent can be a great alternative to a dealer. however, i can't begin to tell you how many cars we get to repair after an indy "fixed" it to save the customer a couple bucks. a dealership will always stand behind their work, and we use OEM Audi german-made parts. many indys will tell you to go screw if something fails, and many of them use aftermarket parts - almost all of which are made in china. you can search these forums for how well those chinese parts hold up...
on the car in question, a '96 A6 with the 2.8L 12v V6, the timing belt job requires a special alignment tool to get the cams timed properly. we have one. it *looks* like you can align them without the tool, and many mechanics do just that - and then we get to re-time the car to fix the lack of power and/or check light.
if an independent can do the job correctly for less money, i don't blame a customer for choosing to go there. just wanted to point out that dealer labor rates are not always a lot higher than an independent, and you can be sure that the car will be fixed right with top-quality parts.

we prefer to supply the parts, because 1.we make a profit on them 2.the parts warranty will be through us, so if there is an issue you only have to come here for repair.
