Properly tuned Stg3 B5 S4s pass the sniffer without cats. If you can take a whiff of your exhaust without passing out, chances are you'll pass the sniffer.

If you'd said "the inspection was on the other set of wheels; we just swapped for [summers/winters]", the cop couldn't have complained.
I took the wife's car (read; our track car) for inspection last August; 95 degrees out. The Mini has massive negative camber in the rear for a street car, but the rear tires had been on the front until recently and we'd worn their outside shoulders while instructing at some BMW club clinics. They were on the rear, whose outside shoulder will never touch the ground.
Anyways, the inspection place (which also sells tires) tries to fail me for 'worn' tires (full thread depth except for the outside shoulder which never touches the ground.
I lose my temper.
I tell them to hold onto that reject sticker.
I drive home (5 minutes away).
I put the car up, swap to winter tires, drive back. I think they were in shock when I showed up 15 minutes later with full tread depth winter tires on. They have no choice but to pass the car, at which point I say "great, now I can go home and put the summers back on".
Bastards thought they were going to force me to buy a new set of tires. No such luck.
