All good places... they vary on the spendy curve, but it's not worth wasting big dollar on a date... better to pick some place with killer food and good atmosphere to incite conversation and discussion.
Bamboo - Thai on Comm ave in brookline/brighton/alston
Cuci Cuci - Kind of anything goes tapas near Central probably the most $$ of the places listed here.
All Star Sandwich Bar - low key, cheap, fun, funky... they serve beer... good sandwiches.. thought I'd throw it out there.
Koreana - a little more on the spendy side... awesome korean food. I reccomend the bi bim bop... can't go wrong there.. some of the dishes are 'do it yourself'... totally fun and ok, but you just might want to have a few dates under your belt before you try that one!
Gaslight - never actually been... heard it's good. In the southend.
Frankling Cafe - in the southend.. usually a big wait, but good scene and good cocktails and awesome menu.. about higher average on the spendy curve.
Sibling Rivalry - South end... similar sort of to the Franklin... bigger and more high profile... but gourmet with a decent bar scene.
Dali - Sort of near Harvard/Inman/Union/Porter... awesome tapas... a little spendy, but not bad. tons of atmospere... can be a bit of a wait, so plan ahead.. but they have awesome sangria.
my point here is that going to Hammersly's or some crap like that is not necessarily the best move. Pick a good place, with awesome food, with decent character that gives you a chance to chat... feelign like you're rushed, or stressed about the bill total or making your res on time etc SUCKS as a date (did that on Valentine's day with a girl to Aquitaine in the south end = no fun.) Just HAVE fun and have some of your own character come through.
good luck.

Haven't been in a couple years, but last time it was a nice intimate place. Food was pretty good too.

here
