Default Well, his reasons seem justified...

...he ONLY works on Audi/VW, so I'm sure he sees a LOT of engines over the years. He did say that more often than not, the new water pumps that replaced perfectly fine pumps were the ones that tended to fail, not the original one that had no issues to being with.

Of course, for those cars (like the 1.8T) that have plastic impellers, I could see that perhaps it should be replaced, but for the ones with metal impellers like the 4.2, if there are no leaks, no broken bearing, no need to replace it.

I trust his judgement, and even if the water pump does fail eventually, I am still covered under warranty for another 1.5 years. If it happens after that, well, I can look into doing this myself (since I had originally planned on doing the timing belt myself next spring).

I'm just happy that virtually everything was covered. I only had to pay for a pulley, the belt itself, and some coolant (plus the oil change as well since I was due).

It might have scared you off, but it made sense to me.

Default Audi Pure Protection is MUCH better than CPO...

...it is a 3rd party warranty that the dealers sell for used cars (mine is through Fidelity Warranty), and I ahve the exclusionary "platinum" plan which covers everything on the car exceept for the short list of items specifically listed in the policy. If it's not listed in the exclusions, it is covered. $0 deductible.

I bought the car used from a used car dealer in Chicago, drove it home, and got the warranty at Bernari Audi. I still had some factory warranty left, so it qualified.
