You should do the wheel bearing yourself. It's a simple job. I did my rear recently and I'll be happy to help you out if it's your rear that needs replacing. The front is supposedly harder and I haven't done it myself yet. I've got tools, you just find a location, beers and we can tackle it together.
Anyway, best of luck. I can relate to your troubles.

I am in college now, and in high school was pretty handy with tools (I was on a FIRST team) but never dug much into cars so I dont know much about doing the wheel bearings.
Let me know when/where and what you like to drink :-)

Like I said, I didn't exactly wind the car out but I did not notice the clutch slipping at all while driving around in any gear.
I mean, the clutch seemed to engage a little higher than mine and there was also much less travel from when it started to catch and when it was fully engaged.
But... I have driven multiple other B5's with clutches that felt similar and their clutches were fine.

and contact the seller and ask why 'x' failing items were not disclosed and see if both parties can come to an agreement. Maybe he will return some of the purchase price to you to offset the cost of the immediate repairs.
I am assuming that your purchase contract had a line in it that said something to the effect of 'as-is'. But thru small claims court you can argue that the seller disclosed that an 02 sensor was bad and that was all that the seller disclosed.
It seems odd that a clutch and potentially other items could all of a sudden fail and the seller would not know they are failing.
