know of anything like this around Boston?

Friend is looking to do an engine swap on a Volvo 940... crappy stock 114hp 4-cyl to a blown Mustang V8... plus all the supporting work (suspension, exhaust, tires/wheels, tranny).

thanks

Default We're just starting planning --- totally open minded at this point.

What we have in mind would be a community garage where you can rent a bay and tools by the hour/day/week etc. Do these exist around here? I think I've heard of them, but maybe more out West and in California.

Could be an interesting business proposal.

Thanks.

Default How would you keep track of the tools?

I'd imaging that they'd walk out the door with customers pretty quickly. Also, there may be insurance issues with people operating the lift themselves, or hurting themselves while working on their car. Would they have to sign some sort of waiver?

I like the idea, but Americans do dumb things to hurt themselves and then typically look for someone else to blame.

Default So does that mean this doesn't exist? Bummer.

Yeah, I was thinking about the tools issue. Maybe like at Best buy... alarm goes off it you leave with them (they're all tagged).

I swear I've heard of this before...

Maybe you sign a waiver and the tools are on the honor system / HUGE deposit up front?

Default This is how Tom and Ray (Click and Clack the Tappet Bros.) Magliozzi started out.

On their show they said the idea was a complete failure. You might want to contact them and see if others succeeded where they failed.

Default Re: Vocational Tech schools have a tool system that works.

You go to the tool corral, sign out the tool and then sign it back in when done with it.

Its been done.

I have some ideas also.

I'd be interested in the concept and as a business.
