MA inspection, can you pass with a DTC but no CEL and all readiness passes?

nope, parked, but I think it was a real cop on a detail
better to go get a rejected sticker and have 3 months to fix than to have an expired. You might not have gotten points if it's your first ticketed offense in a couple of years.

I got nabbed for driving w/ expired sticker, $60, and no points. (in NH)
He said insurance wouldn't see it, not a moving violation. Had the ball joint replacement sitting in the back seat for install the next day too... oh well, legal now...

If you have a fault in the engine, but no light on (soft fault), and raediness codes are set you will pass OBD for a sticker. If you erase that fault readiness codes will need to be set in order to pass.

The dealer can reset the readiness codes back to all 0s...but...
this is illegal in MA as you are supposed to correct the problem, not hide it. The dealer's $7.000 OBD II diagnostic computer can force the readiness codes back to all zeros so the car will pass inspection (this is different than just resetting the CEL to off, which doesn't reset the readiness codes).

I don't think they can... there's a dealership procedure for setting the codes (more)
but it involves a complicated procedure. You can do it with vag-com, but it's a precise series of steps. Regardless, it DOES require that the car actually set the readiness codes properly. For example, for the catalyst efficiency code (TWC) it requires you hold the engine at 2000rpm for a minute. It will then set the code IF the car passes.
So, it's not necessary to drive 50 miles, but it is still necessary to have a functioning cat (or cheat and put spark plug anti-foulers on your O2 sensors....)

You're correct with the procedures needed to be done to reset the readiness codes...ie. holding idle at 2000 rpms, etc.....there is a manual available to audi mechanics that lists all of these steps...but...once they are completed and readiness have all returned to zeros, the car WILL pass OBD II..so long as you get your inspection immediatly. After driving for some miles the OBD computer will once again see the fault and light up the CEL. I know this from experiance...
