reserved number plate...
what exactly is a reserved number plate? You mean a low number plate?
My family has a couple low number plates, (my parents and my Aunt with no children) and I'm the only one of my siblings still living in MA so I want to keep them if I can.
My mother's is MA 179 and my fathers is 265. my aunt has 180 and my great aunt has 266. If you look on the RMV website it said these plates were given out around 1907... pretty neat they keep track.
I also signed my father up for the low number plate drawing and won MA ' Y 25' in 2007

Re: reserved number plate...
Wow. That is pretty cool. Definitely try to hang on to them. I believe those also qualify as a reserved number plate.
My dad's was P 8073. It was given to him in 1964 by his insurance agent who was a close personal friend of the Registrar Jimmie Lawton (those were the days).
The P was for Endicott Peabody who was the governor at the time. P8063-8074 were given out that I know of. When I lived on the south shore I used to see P8065 around.
The plate is $70 for ywo years as opposed to 40 for a regular plate.

Just an FYI, I obtained a copy of the plate visibility rules from an inspection guy that I know.
Green plates that have been touched up will likely fail under an infrared light that a cop could use on it.
Also, plate frames will fail you for one reason mainly; if it covers up the bottom, the cops and the Fast Lane will not be able to see if your plate is a Passenger plate or a Commercial plate
