Default i have to disagree with all of you..

you may want to contact a body shop first, and then the police. no need to elaborate but they deal with the adjuster

Default But you still need to file a claim with your insurance company and let them know of the

situation. They go after the other driver for your claim.

Default Shoulda called the police immediately.

Tell them where you are, and wait for them to come and make a report. I know that's not always practical, but it definitely helps, even if they don't catch the guy.

As for now, I'd shoot tadhgbrosnan an email, report it to your local police station and see what they can do, and tell the whole story to your insurance company. Cover all your bases ASAP. The longer you wait, the less believable your case is.

Default Some police won't come out unless there is injury. I was involved in a T/A back in Oct and

I called the police. The other driver was present and they asked, "is anyone injured"? I said, no. They said okay, just exchange information.

Default ^^^^Clarification on this^^^^

We will always investigate a hit and run. Always.

If it's not a hit and run, though, and there is only minor damage (fender bender)this can easily be resolved by simply exchanging information between the parties involved. You can request a police officer to respond but it isn't always necessary.

Default Oh, I'm not saying that police don't investigate hit and runs. I called one in myself to the SP and

the trooper investigated and got back to me.

I was just pointing out police may not come out to all accidents, just depends on the accident type

Default UPDATE -

I was way too busy yesterday and had no time to call my insurance company...but I called them this morning and started a claim. They also ran the license plate and gave me the other driver's info. So lets see what happens...

tadhgbrosnan, thanks for the email!
