Default More water/less frequent is for the purpose of making the roots grow deep to go down

and get the water. Whereas, less water/more frequent allows the roots to stay shallow. Deeper roots = healthier lawn.

Or, so i've read....

Default If you water your lawn, the grass will grow more. Which is bad

because it leaves you with less time to do important things like working on your car, enjoying your family, or playing golf.

If I have to be obsessive-compulsive about my cars or the lawn, the cars are going to win every time :-)

Default You are 100% correct.

- I had forgotten about that in the few years since I read up on it.
I'm with Architect, though - on spring/summer/fall weekends, there are innumerable outdoor activities I'd prefer over lawn and grass maintenance.
I'm slowly converting portions of my property over to mulch and ground cover to minimize the weekly upkeep. Plus, I'm somewhat green, and don't like to waste water.

Default Luckily I have well water so, no bans nor water bills for me.

The bad thing is the water sucks for drinking, so I pay for Poland Spring deliveries.

Default Some communities will enact bans even for houses with wells

I have a well, too, and it pretty much goes all the way to China. It's something like 700ft deep. I'm not too concerned with droughts as a result.

Default Bingo. Middleton. MA is one of them

Having a lush green lawn is almost embarassing here. There is a big push to let our lawns go dormant in the summertime.

The Ipswich River borders my backyard and I see firsthand the effect of excessive use of water. The river is unbelievably low right now for mid-April.

If you've got hydroseed down, water it now. If you don't you'll just get weeds.
