OK New Englanders....what are your favorite "local" drives?
I'm guessing that most people here drive for fun and not just necessity, so how about a thread listing some of your favorite drives?
Personally, I like trips that yield some fun driving, but also a nice destination.....preferably something that ends near the ocean. Being down here in the Taunton area I like some of the back roads that lead to Buzzards Bay or Plymouth....the traffic is light, there are some mild twists and turns, and the destinations yield a wealth of nice places to grab a drink by the ocean.
I can also recall some pretty nice ocean drives on the North Shore from my days commuting from Allston to North Shore Children's Hospital.
How about other AWers? When you jump in the car to go for a drive, where do you head to?

I live on 116 along that route that you posted...
and I agree that it is a fantastic drive (although not really any sort of destination involved). I also enjoy routes 9 and 100 in Vermont. Other than that, it is mostly the small back roads around Western MA that I seek out. They are too small to mention since only the locals will have any idea what I am referring to.
Route 8 from the Tolland, MA area down into CT (Winchester/Winstead area) is also an enjoyable ride.

Hi Yogi-
It was nice meeting you today at the GTG.
When me and mrs schnell are going for a scenic drive, rte. 119 North up to Jaffrey, NH is very pretty. Lots of farm country. We end up at Mt. Monadnoc and go for a hike and picnic.
You don't end up at the ocean, but the view from the top is breathtaking.

Let's see.....
Most of my preferred ones are up in northern NH/VT, but a couple of the more well known ones...rt 4 from white river junction, vt to rutland, vt is nice (just don't speed near woodstock), rt 12 from woodstock to 91 is a nice fairly remote drive, rt 120 north from Hanover, NH to Orford (or farther) is also very scenic. Further south, driving along the beaches in Cape Cod is really nice (forget the road names...sorry), and there are some others i'm sure i'm forgetting
