OT- "Boston Citywide Internet" on city telephone poles?

I was in Brookline today and I noticed white boxes with several antennas on every third telephone poll I drove by. Is this some kind of wireless internet system for the masses? free?

google search only got me boston.com articles (members only)

Yep, Brookline has wireless from every couple of street lights. I see one outside my window.

It was free when they were piloting the program but now I think there is a fee for it, not sure. I tried it when they were getting it up and running, pretty quick. Still see the wireless signal in my list of wireless APs.
