Had some fun on some open stretches and turns the other day with a friend and his new RS60 boxster on some open roads in rural Quebec. We spent almost an hour. It was lots of fun. The boxster sounds nice with its new RS exhaust, but nothing compared to my un-resonated V10. Had race gas in the tank, so she was running great, lots of timing advance, cool temps making power, she felt very strong.
What really surprised me is how I absolutely walked by him in straight line speed (the RS60 is the 303 hp boxster), come from behind at that. I had done some pulls with an older, less powerful Boxster S when I had my Cayenne Turbo, and the powerful cayenne turbo barely passed the boxster S.
It got fun on some gorgeous smooth long and fast s turns, two lane side by side (and they were actually banked! So imagine a highway off ramp at 100mph plus!). The boxster has legendary handling, and it showed. I had the Goodyear F1 assimetrico's properly warmed up and ESP off. I let the AWD pull me through, little 4 wheel drift through the turn, nosing up on the boxster...I had to back off on the turn as I didn't want to force him to make a mistake and spin. In doing so I unsettled the car a little when I lifted off, but everything stayed cool and kept it all in order.
We then swapped cars. Nice power on the boxster, but nothing like my S6. The handling though is incredible. Extremely balanced car (that's what happens when the engine is behind the seats and almost on the pavement I guess). Still couldn't shake the S6 in the turns though. With some seat time on the boxster though, I could have probably coaxed more from it. Boy, those LEDs look downright evil coming from behind at triple digit speeds! I never heard my car pass me at full RPMs with the unresonated sport exhaust, WOW.
Was a good time all in all, I was very happy with my car. I go back and forth to work and look like a conservative businessman in an A6 (statistically proven to be the european banker's car of choice), but in an instant it turns into a fire breathing beast, I was literally giggling. It got me dreaming about the next generation S6 or RS6 which is supposed to be lighter and more powerful. Should be lots of fun.
Took some videos, I'll upload to utube and post link.
