Default random musings... rs6, e39 m5, or 550i

would like a bigger car to replace my b5 s4. i love "shopping", as do most of the people here, I assume. so entertain my latest weekend decision with some ramblings of your own:
* rs6
+ quattro, brutally fast in a straight line
- maintenance is hellacious
- a big heavy pig of a car
* e39 m5
+ awesome beast. the original uber sedan
- dated platform
- variance in quality of care of examples
* 550i
+ 360hp and new new platform
+ i like the looks finally
- not an "M" or "S" car

Default as a near lifetime vag product owner and quattro enthusiast...

... possibly getting a non-awd car really is probably the biggest concern. when e39 m5 people talk about "having good snow tires" being all you need for good winter handling, I always feel like they could not possibly know because they aren't coming from quattro land.

It is so hard to think of which one to buy! Makes for great weekend chit chat (sans wife), though.

Default I test drove this car and at the same price as an S5 it lacked in so many ways.

It is a very functional and comfortable but it felt like it lacked power and steering feel. Of course with a chip it would be much quicker.

Inside was lame compared to the S5, or any Audi for that matter.

Default I bet you can pick up a low mileage D3 A8 with 100K warranty for a fairly low price.

I know it's not nearly as sporty as what you're also considering but they're VERY comfortable and deceivingly quick, especially on the highway.

Such a classy looking car too. Although, it would be a hard switch coming from a B5 S4.

Default I think the 5 series matches up against the A6, and the 3 series with the A/S5

I agree that picking the S5 over a 3 series coupe is a no-brainer.

Presumably, someone who is interested in a 5 series is looking for something which the A/S/4/5 don't offer: interior space.

I think the A6 and 5 series are much closer to each other than the B8 and E92. I have only driven the S6 though, so I can't really offer a useful opinion on how they stack up beyond basic numbers.

Default I've always liked the w211 E-Class. E550 4Matic with Sport Package!

5.5L V8, 388 hp, 391 lb-ft. I'd hit it.

Default why not a C6 4.2 sedan?

2006 dark blue, 50k, for $22k

Make it look like an S6

http://www.bournes.com</a
