Good luck, E39 M5s are sweet. Although, they're aging these days.

But truthfully i think the 645 and 650 are more comparable to the S5 than a 335i. The 335 seems more sporty, but with a bland plastic interior. The S5 is more comfortable and feels like a sporty GT car, with the 650 as heavier and serves only as a GT cruiser.

the searches I did were nationwide, which might explain the differences I saw. 535xi was much more into the $45k+ range.

IMHO. I'm sure the RS6 is bigger, and AWD, and Audi. Yeah... it's just that
a) I'm not a huge fan of the C5 appearance, although the RS6 looks much meaner
b) repair costs scare me
So I'll keep an eyeball open for RS6'es with warranty

the '06s are nice but the wheels suck. logic7 is a must on those cars.
for your price range, i'd seriously look at an RS4. it's a little bigger than your B5, will be relatively low-maintenance, can be had for mid-$40s, and offers all (or more) in performance.
