from bentley..
1) The clutch for the gear indicated is slipping/is faulty or the solenoid valve for this gear is dirty/faulty
2) Sensor for transmission output RPM -G195- faulty
3) Sensor for transmission RPM -G182- faulty
4) Wrong Transmission Control Module (TCM) installed or coding wrong
notes: Gear monitoring of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) checks the gear ratio by comparing transmission input RPM and transmission output RPM based on the currently selected gear. This malfunction is indicated when an unrecognized, unauthorized gear ratio occurs (implausibility)

with that code, i would give it to a mechanic for further analysis
there seems to be a few areas to check.
the solenoid valve is a likely culprit and apparently can be checked via VAG. check out <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/52215.phtml">this message</a> on the A8 forum.
my very unprofessional opinion thinks that if it was the RPM sensors, it would affect all gears, not a single one, so clutch is a possibility. although if the car died and does not run, the RPM sensors are a bigger possibility - maybe that was the last code before the car died.
i'm shooting in the dark based on little information.

i found trans code EFQ, but i did not find part# 01V-300-044-GZ. it does look similar to a transmission part# however.
this is what i found for 5 speed automatic transmissions for a4:

i think the # before the part# means rebuilt, which is the same as the part# ending with X. > may mean new, not sure.
my suggestion is to contact carson heter @ riverside audi in NJ. he has the expertise, and he'll give you an audiworld discount if you need to purchase any parts.
