Default Recommendation on NE Indep. Shop for Timing Belt Replacement

I have approx. 65K on my 2001 Audi A4 1.8T and am told that I need to replace the Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tensioner and Thermostat soon. I'm up on the NORTH SHORE of MA.

The best referral would be if you had a shop replace your timing belt and it was a good experience.

Also, is this something an independent shop should be able to do easily vs. a dealership?

What would the dealership charge?

One last question - I need to replace my cabin filter - do you all suggest using an OEM one or is their a better one out there?

Default Of course a good indy can do this. Go to Advanced Technologies in Gloucester. Lots of good reviews

of that place if you STFA.

Default I just had my timing belt replaced on my VW at Status Auto in Londonderry, NH...

Tony came highly recommended on this forum, so I gave him a shot.

Tony was great to deal with, and knows his stuff. He had all the parts in his shop and had the TB done pretty quick. I left it overnight with him and he had it done the next day (day before Thanksgiving!). His labor and parts prices are very competitive with other independent shops closer to me. Dealers won't even come close in price.

His shop was a little hard to find at first as it is pretty far off of Mammoth Road in an industrial park, but he is very close to I-93.

Bonus... I swear he added some horsepower to my 2.slow as the throttle now seems more responsive.

Default Status Auto just did my tbelt on friday.

Great experience, great price. I dropped it off at 9am, and it was finished before noon. He is doing my buddy's A4 tomorrow morning.

He even topped off my fluids.

Default Call Damon at German Auto Sport, or Mike at Autobahn. BOTH are great!

Both have done work on current and past cars, and always do a top notch job.
