Recommendations on shops in the Boston area that will check wheel balance for cheap/free?
I recently got new wheels/tires, and since then, I've noticed a speed-dependent (not RPM-dependent) noise that appears to be coming from the left front wheel area. It's kind of a "wubwubwubwubwubwubwub" that speeds up as the car does.
I checked the tires to see if anything was stuck in them (nope), I checked the wheels to see if there were any bends (nope), and I swapped the left rear wheel to the left front to see if the sound went away or moved (nope). This last one would lead me to believe it's not related to a wheel being out of balance, since it's unlikely that 2 new wheels were out of balance the exact same amount.
I also jacked up the car and tried to move the wheel to see if there was any play, indicating a bad wheel bearing, but there wasn't. I had bad wheel bearings in the rear a while back, and the noise was much higher pitched than this noise (granted it still could be a wheel bearing on its way out, but just sounds different due to the different loads placed on the front versus the rear of the car).
In any case, I'm just trying to rule out the cheapest stuff first. Any recommendations?
