Stolen S4

From my experiance, insurance wont give you any money for mods, even if you have proof
My modded S4 was stolen from waterfest 2 or so years ago. Allstate told me to go pound sand when I asked for money for my mods. Unless your insurance has a policy to cover modifications (most don't), you have a rider cover modifications (again, most don't offer this) or you have an agreed upon value for the car (those insurances are hugely expensive) you wont get anything for the mods. Even if you have all the proof. Sh*tty situation, but that's the risk you take when you mod.
The only thing that would really help you is if you have all the receipts for the mods. Then the insurance might work with you. But more likely than not, you wont have much luck recovering money for the mods. Good luck.

If your car is stolen, you probably don't want it back...
I'll just be a bigger headache in the long run and the car will never be the same. Thieves beat the snot out of stolen cars. So you could easily have major tranny/engine/turbo problems down the road that wont be covered under insurance since the problem didn't present itself at the time it was recovered. I was actually happy my car turned up stripped and totalled.

Was the accident your fault?...
If it was the other person's fault, your ins. co. doesn't care. They will get reimbursed from the other company. If it was your fault and they still paid for your aftermarket wheels, they did you a favor.
Most Ins co. will not pay for mods. Why should they unless you have had the car appraised by an agent prior to the policy being issued. In this case, if they quote a rate after an appraisal, and that appraisal has included the mods, then you can argue that the mods should be covered if damaged or stolen.
Honestly, I'm done with high level mods. I used to be a modaholic. In the 6 previous cars I've owned in my life, I probably racked up $100K in mods/labor alone. It requires too much constant attention, there are increasing legal issues to deal with, you lose out huge in case of theft or damage and you get back only a small fraction of what you put into it on resale. Fortunately, I'm at the point in life where I can afford cars that don't really need mods, but it's still tough to resist the bug. I've added an aftermarket sub and amp to my RS4 because the sound was really deficient. Other than some paint mods and floor mats, the car is stock. Sure I *could* mod it, but it really isn't worth it IMO, at this overall level of automobile.
