Timing Belt/ Tensioner
I own a 2006 A4 2.0T and is currently at 66K. My local shops says I have less then 5K to do work on my timing belt tensioner because the belt is making an abnormal sound that is getting louder. I looked at the Audi Maintenance program and it says it’s that timing belt work is to be done at 75K. For those of you who own a B7, around what mileage do you guys have been changing your timing belt? Has anyone else experience abnormal timing belt, timing belt tensioner and/or assembly wear?
Can anyone recommend me an alternative Indy shop in the North Andover/Andover area to get a second opinion?

The timing belt interval in the maintenance manual is used as an estimated guide. The best way to tell if you meet a t-belt service is to have a qualified tech inspect the belt itself. Some belts fail before 75k, some long after. Either way, a broken t-belt will destroy your engine and make your t-belt replacement costs, trivial.
If you are planning to have an indy perform the work, make sure you get in writing EXACTLY what will be replaced. It is strongly recommended the timing belt, t-belt tensioner, waterpump, serpentine belt, pulleys and thermostat are all replaced since there is no additional labor. If you decide to save a few bucks by omitting any of these items or using cheap non-oem parts their failure will more than make up the savings since you'll be paying t-belt labor for each individual repair. While the dealership may not be your lowest quoted price, you will be guaranteed OEM parts and accountability.
