(oh, and do the cops really care / is registration a problem if you don't have legal tint and/or e-code headlights?)

and NET tint means taking into account the factory tint already on the windows.
When I had 50% film put on my A6 at Tint King in Billerica, the tint meter said 38%.
Remember, tint is measured in the % of light that passes through, so 38% net tint is just within the legal limit of 35%. If you go 40% film over the factory tint, you will be too dark.
Many inspection stations will not pass you if you have tint darker than 35%. There are a few exceptions, but why chance it? Also, if you are stopped by the police and you have tint darker than the law allows, you could be cited for an extra fine, then you have to spend more $$$ to remove the tint and more $$$ to get tint again that complies with the law. Might as well do it right the first time.
Yes, there are some that have gone darker and have not had any issues with inspections or the police, but why chance it???

I also used 50% on the S6 to be safely above the 35% limit, however the stock tint on the Odyssey seems quite a bit darker than what was on the S6.
I can only assume it is legal since it is OEM tint.
Hmmm...should I tint the front windows to match the rest? No...must...resist...mods...on...the...minivan!

Hence, a 50% tint allows 50% of the available light to pass through, 35% tint allows 35% of the available light to pass through, therefor 35% tint is darker than 50% tint. Limos have something like a 5% tint.
Minivans and SUV's have a special exemption becasue the tint is factory installed, the tint on SUV's and Minivans is somwhere around 20-25%
I have 35% tint on my car and the last time I was pulled over by a State Trooper his light meter said that I was at 32% - which was "just on the line" according to the Trooper.

The reason that 40% film would be too dark, is that the NET tint would be closer to something like 28% taking account the factory tint of around 12% already.
I did not know that SUVs and vans were 20%, but yes, they are DARK, so I believe that.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/newengland/msgs/18095.phtml">read here</a></li></ul>

Pulled over 5 times. hey all let me slide since it was a florida car. I brought it to T3 and they put 35% tint on it and inspection it always registered 32%. The guy at the inspection station said he would fail me but there were ways I could make it pass. He wanted $$$. I told him to go F himself and I reported him to the state. Second place I went to said it was fine.
